In this entry, I would like to relate geometry to animals. After surfing on the internet, I could have realised that animals have geometric figures in their skins and this causes me a feeling of curiosity, so it is something that I would like to share with all of you.
People usually live absorbed in their personal problems and interests, and more now, that we live in a society where technology consumes us every day, so, sometimes we do not pay attention to our surroundings and the amazing and little curiosities that exist in our world.
For this reason, I would like to share you what nature has for us and the incredible and amazing curiosities that we can find in it. Talking about the relation between geometry and animals, it is noteworthy watching how nature can create geometric figures in the skins of animals in such a way it produces an amazing and perfect geometry, but sometimes this kind of geometric it serves to them because it is a way of protection or defense.
Now, I will show you some examples;
èWe can find easily circular figures in the peacock’s feathers that look like eyes.
èWe can find black lines in the zebra's skin.
èOr we can pay attention to the triangular figures that appear in the snake's skin.
èIn this example it is easier to see the geometric figure, that in this case is a spiral of a snail's shell.
This could be very useful for the learning of geometric figures if we develop an activity with students of Primary Education.
On the one hand, we could catch their attention for animals so it would be a transversal topic environment education. Moreover, students will be more motivated and at the same time, they will be learning geometry in a practical and entertaining way.
